East Africa Safari: Tanzania & Kenya

Day 1: Arrival in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

  • Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), the gateway to the northern safari circuit. You will be met by your Tour Manager/local representative after clearing customs.
  • Transfer to your hotel in Arusha, the bustling safari hub at the foot of Mount Meru.

Day 2: Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park

Distance: Arusha to Lake Manyara: ~75 miles (approx. 2 hours).

  • Important Place – Lake Manyara National Park: A scenic gem nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Famous for its tree-climbing lions, vast soda lake populated by thousands of flamingos (seasonal), and dense groundwater forest. It’s a compact park offering incredible biodiversity.
  • Morning: Check out and drive to Lake Manyara.
  • Afternoon: Enjoy a local lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive in Lake Manyara National Park.

Day 3: Lake Manyara to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Distance: Lake Manyara to Ngorongoro: ~40 miles (approx. 1.5 hours, but steep ascent).

  • Important Place – Ngorongoro Highlands: The fertile, cool highlands surrounding the crater. This area is home to Maasai communities and coffee plantations, offering a beautiful contrast to the savannah below.
  • Morning: Check out and proceed on a final game drive in Lake Manyara.
  • Afternoon: Drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Enjoy lunch and check into your lodge on the crater rim.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive

  • Important Place – Ngorongoro Crater: A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, often called “Africa’s Garden of Eden.” This natural amphitheater walls in one of the highest densities of wildlife on earth, including the Big Five, and offers unparalleled, concentrated game viewing in a breathtaking setting.
  • Full Day: After breakfast, descend 2,000 feet into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full morning of game viewing. Enjoy a packed lunch at a scenic picnic site within the crater.
  • Afternoon: Continue exploring the crater floor before ascending back to your lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 5: Ngorongoro to Amboseli National Park, Kenya

Distance: Ngorongoro to Amboseli: ~125 miles (approx. 4-5 hours, including border crossing).

  • Border Crossing: Cross from Tanzania to Kenya at the Namanga border.
  • Important Place – Amboseli National Park: Renowned for its spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro across the border in Tanzania and its large herds of elephants. The park’s swamps and open plains create iconic African scenes, especially at dawn and dusk.
  • Morning: Check out with a boxed breakfast and drive to Amboseli.
  • Afternoon: After completing border formalities and a local lunch, proceed for an afternoon game drive in Amboseli.

Day 6: Amboseli to Nairobi

  • Morning: Enjoy an early morning game drive in Amboseli when wildlife is active and views of Kilimanjaro are often clearest. Return to the lodge for breakfast and check out.
  • Afternoon: Drive to Nairobi. Enjoy an Indian lunch, then visit the Giraffe Centre.

Day 7: Nairobi to Nanyuki & Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Distance: Nairobi to Nanyuki: ~120 miles (approx. 3 hours).

  • Important Place – Ol Pejeta Conservancy: A leading wildlife sanctuary in the foothills of Mount Kenya. It is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa and home to the last two remaining northern white rhinos on the planet. It also hosts a chimpanzee sanctuary and is a successful model of a wildlife conservancy integrated with community partnership.
  • Morning: Check out and drive north to the Mount Kenya region. Arrive at your lodge for a local lunch.
  • Afternoon: Enjoy an afternoon game drive in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, focusing on rhino conservation and seeing a wide variety of wildlife.

Day 8: Nanyuki to Lake Naivasha

Distance: Nanyuki to Lake Naivasha: ~95 miles (approx. 2.5 hours).

  • Photo-Stop: Cross the Equator line.
  • Important Place – Lake Naivasha: The highest lake in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley and a freshwater oasis. Its shores are fringed with papyrus and yellow-barked acacia trees, attracting a profusion of birdlife (including fish eagles) and hippos. It’s a serene spot for a boat safari.
  • Morning: Check out and drive to Lake Naivasha, stopping for an Equator photo.
  • Afternoon: After a local lunch, embark on a boat ride on Lake Naivasha to see hippos and birds up close.

Day 9: Lake Naivasha to Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Day 10: Full Day in Maasai Mara

  • Full Day Safari: Dedicate the day to exploring the Mara. An early morning game drive offers the best chance to see predators in action. Return to the lodge for breakfast and leisure time. After lunch, venture out again for an afternoon game drive, searching for the Big Five and the dramatic scenes of the migration if in season.
  • Overnight in Maasai Mara. Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
  • Distance: Maasai Mara to Nairobi: ~175 miles (approx. 5-6 hours).

Day 11: Maasai Mara to Nairobi

Morning: Check out after breakfast and drive back to Nairobi.

Day 12: Departure

A. Changes to Itinerary & Services

  • Itinerary Adjustments: We reserve the right to alter routes, attractions, or other details of the tour before or after booking due to circumstances beyond our control, such as bad weather, natural disasters, accidents, or logistical issues.
  • Hotel Accommodations: Specific hotels are subject to change based on availability, especially during citywide events. We will substitute a hotel of a similar class if necessary.
  • Transportation Delays:We are not responsible for delays or schedule changes in flights, trains, buses, or cruises. Any additional expenses incurred due to such delays are the passenger’s responsibility, and we reserve the right to claim these costs. Itineraries will be adjusted accordingly without additional compensation.

B. Payments & Pricing

  • Payment Methods: All payments must be made by check, cashier’s check, or money order. Credit card payments will incur a 3.5% processing fee. Please email a copy of your payment confirmation.
  • Price Fluctuations: The tour package price is subject to change due to currency exchange rate fluctuations, airline ticket price increases close to the departure date, or if the group size falls below 25 passengers (which may incur a 5-10% supplement).
  • Airline Costs: Quoted airline rates are approximate and subject to change until fully booked. A deposit is required immediately to confirm airline reservations, as quotes can expire within 24 hours.

C. Cancellations, Refunds & Unused Services

  • Cancellation Fee: A fee of USD $100 per person will be applied to any cancellation, refund, or exchange request.

  • Non-Refundable Services: Payments made for airline tickets are non-refundable. There will be no refunds for any unused portions of the tour (e.g., meals, entrance fees, hotels, sightseeing) due to unavoidable circumstances.
  • No Refund for Delays:We are not liable for damages or refunds due to delays in air travel.

D. Group & Booking Details

  • Group Size: Tours require a minimum of 25 passengers to operate. Groups with fewer than 25 may be subject to a small-group supplement and may not have a dedicated tour manager upon arrival.

  • Booking Advice: To secure the best price, we advise booking at least 60 days prior to departure, as internal ticket rates often increase closer to the travel date.
  • Validity: Published packages and prices are only guaranteed for our fixed departure dates. Rates for other dates are subject to change based on availability and peak travel seasons.

E. Passenger Responsibilities & Information

  • Travel to Hub City: Passengers are responsible for their own travel expenses to and from the tour’s starting point (hub city).
  • Insurance: It is extremely important that you obtain comprehensive overseas travel insurance before your departure.
  • Damages: You are financially responsible for any damage caused to hotels or coaches during your stay.
  • Visa & Special Requests: Visa information is subject to change, and it is your responsibility to secure the necessary travel documents. Special requests with airlines (seating, meals, wheelchair assistance) are not guaranteed.
  • Children: Passengers aged 12 and above are considered adults. Children aged 2-11 must share a room with an adult.

F. Hotel & Luggage Information

  • Confirmation & Timing: Hotel confirmations and airline reservations will be provided 7-15 days prior to departure.
  • Check-in/out: Standard hotel check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out is at 11:00 AM.
  • Room Types: For triple rooms, a rollaway bed will be provided for the third person, and the room size may be the same as a standard double room.
  • Event Blockouts: During major international events, we may need to accommodate guests in hotels outside the primary city, which may alter the itinerary.
  • Luggage: We strongly recommend you limit your luggage to one medium checked bag (max 20 kg) and one carry-on bag (max 7 kg) per person, in accordance with coach and internal flight regulations.
